RACHEL'S SONG, Part II
When I presented my first chapter of Rachel’s Song to the writers’ group I was attending at the time, it jolted anyone who was bored or sleepy into a state of alertness. The chapter grabs your attention, introducing a decidedly off-beat lifestyle, suggesting the possibility of a weird tangle among the three main characters.
It so happened that we had a guest in the group that evening, a poet from India who was visiting in the area. He asked for my permission to take a copy of the chapter back to India with him. “I want to show it to people,” he said, “and tell them this is the way they write in America.”
Yikes!
